Tony-Award Winning Actress to Be Honored at the Shakespeare Theatre Company Gala
To acknowledge her outstanding contribution to classical theatre in America, Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) will present Tony-Award winning actress, singer and stage director Phylicia Rashad with the prestigious William Shakespeare Award for Classical Theatre (Will Award.) The ceremony will take place at the Shakespeare Theatre Company Gala at the Harman Center for the Arts on Sunday October 14, 2018. STC will also honor Jacqueline Badger Mars with the Sidney Harman Award for Philanthropy in the Arts, in recognition of her generous support of STC and her commitment to arts education in Washington, DC.

The National Archives Foundation honored actor, director, and producer Tom Hanks with its 2017 Records of Achievement Award at a black-tie gala at the National Archives last night. The honor recognized his powerful illumination of the American story through his vast body of work in film and television during the past four decades. The Gala brought nearly 250 distinguished guests from Washington’s civic, corporate, and cultural communities, including members of Congress, the Administration, and the Courts.

“Portrait of a Nation Prize” Honors Dr. Madeleine K. Albright, David D. Ho, M.D., Bill T. Jones, Spike Lee and Rita Moreno
The Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery will hold its second biennial American Portrait Gala Sunday, November 19, honoring five individuals whose achievements in their respective fields have been exemplary and whose portraits reside in the museum’s collection. The 2017 recipients are former Secretary of State Dr. Madeleine K. Albright; Taiwanese American medical doctor and HIV/AIDS researcher David D. Ho, M.D.; artistic director, choreographer and dancer Bill T. Jones; film director, producer, writer and actor Spike Lee; and multi-award-winning actress Rita Moreno.

Gala program to include Q&A with Ken Burns
The National Archives Foundation today announced that Tom Hanks will receive its 2017 Records of Achievement Award. The honor, bestowed by the nonprofit partner to the National Archives, recognizes Hanks’ career honoring and supporting history through both acting and filmmaking. He will receive the award at the Foundation’s annual Gala, held at the National Archives, on October 21, 2017, at the National Archives Museum in Washington, DC.

“Hamilton’s” Lin-Manuel Miranda, Thomas Kail & Ron Chernow to Receive National Archives Foundation Records of Achievement Award
The National Archives Foundation today announced that Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Ron Chernow, Tony-award winning film and theater director Thomas Kail, and Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, lyricist and performer Lin-Manuel Miranda will receive its 2016 Records of Achievement Award. The honor recognizes their collective work on the Tony, Grammy and Pulitzer Prize Award winning Broadway musical “Hamilton,” inspired by the 2004 biography of Alexander Hamilton by Mr. Chernow. The Broadway musical was directed by Mr. Kail, and was written by and stars Mr. Miranda. All three will receive the award at the Foundation’s annual Gala, held at the National Archives, on September 25 in Washington, DC.

Local Teen Angel Project (TAP) Announces Wings! 2015 Gala to Benefit Teen/Tween Dance Efforts for Community Organizations
Teen Angel Project (TAP) has donated more than 3,000 community service hours in performances at local hospitals, homeless shelters, nursing homes, and more. They are raising awareness and funds for their community-based service projects at their Annual Wings! 2015 Gala. This year, TAP will award its First Annual “Wings Award” to a local 89-year-old who has inspired the next generation of performers. The recipient, Gemma Adami, 89, a Silver Spring resident at Grace House, is a retired Italian opera singer and will sing "Ave Maria."
