BurgerFi Twitter/X Food Review

B.A.D. Burger at BurgerFi

There’s seemingly no end to the number of burger 🍔 options at @BurgerFi. Opted for the B.A.D. Burger ($11.49) and a Strawberry 🍓 Shake ($7.49) The Burger was delicious, despite a normally unforgivable offense (forgot the bacon 🥓) It starts with a tender potato roll, flavorful single Angus beef patty, a full-size hash brown and fried egg. Toss in the slightest dash of syrup, and you have a near-perfect (bacon?) burger. B+ Might be the best burger bun in the DMV. The shake’s good, but the color (beige) is odd & kinda off-putting C+.

Grade: B (Great choice for great burgers.)

Jon's Joint Twitter/X Food Review

Hamburger & Straight-Cut Fries at Jon's Joint

First time at the new DC location of @Jonsjointburger and we’re already in love. Freshest, hottest 🥵 Straight-Cut Fries in town ($5.95) A- (Old Bay at the counter!) simple but scrumptious (single) Hamburger (also $5.95) B+ and a to-die-for Mango milkshake ($7.95) that’s worth twice the price. A+ Banner service, fun atmosphere & one of the best windows for people-watching in DC.

Grade: A

CHAR'D Twitter/X Food Review

Char'd Burger (r) with Duck Fat Fries at CHAR'D

Not all fries are created equal, and the $6.99 Duck Fat Fries at CHAR'D are no exception. They’re phenomenal… clean, non-greasy and salty, perfect even without a dipping sauce. A. Their Char’d Burger ($10.99) is pretty good, but comes plain (if you skip the cheese) and is basically a @Smashburger that costs twice as much. B. Ditto for their $8.99 Strawberry 🍓 Shake (nice consistency) B. Inviting interior, but hiccups with online ordering + potentially prohibitive pricing make this more of a treat than a routine stop.

Grade:
B (Solid as they come, and terrific fries.)

Bobby's Burger Palace Food Review IV

Cheyenne Burger at Bobby's Burger Palace

Headline: Bobby Flay still makes one mean burger. My umpteenth visit to Bobby's Burger Palace (it's one of my favorites) wasn't just for fun. You could even call it "work." They just announced (for July) a new burger (the Cheyenne), and shake (Blueberry Chocolate Chip) so what better way to celebrate the Fourth of July than our fourth official review. This latest trip wasn't perfect per se, but greatness affords you a little wiggle room.

The Habit Burger Grill Food Review II

The Habit Burger Grill's Golden Chicken Sandwich

Our first visit to Rockville's The Habit Burger Grill left (plenty of) room for improvement. A year later, familiar problems persist. In particular, the quality of food, which seems to have gotten even worse. Combined with a noisy kitchen, it's safe to say, this is one culinary habit worth breaking.

Bantam King (Walk-Up Window) Food Review

Nanban Chicken Combo at Bantam King

Fast casual food just keeps getting better. Bantam King is known for its Japanese ramen, and choice location (across the street from the Verizon Center) but it took a sneak preview of its new Walk-Up Window to discover the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. Sound the alarm: There's a new "King" in town, and he/it tastes delicious.

Arby's Fast Food Review III

Smokehouse Pork Belly Sandwich at Arby's

I turn 50 years old in about 16 months. That mean's no more messing around... i.e. second (and third) chances to people and places that don't deserve it. Arby's qualifies as the latter, at least the one on Rockville Pike. Time and time again, I've suffered through unspeakable examples of piss-poor service. And for what? Curly fries? Sure they're good, but no one item is worth 1,001 (easily avoidable) shortcomings. Mark my words, I'll never go back. How come? Read on, to discover the final straws that broke this camel's critic's back.

CaliBurger Launches Delivery Service in Washington, DC

On Tuesday, March 14, CaliBurger will launch delivery of its California-style burgers to customers in the DC metro area. The delivery program launches from Union Kitchen in Ivy City (1369 New York Avenue, NE) and is the first step in the brand’s plans to open multiple neighborhood storefronts around the region later this year. The menu is centered around the style of burger popular in Southern California for decades - thin fresh beef patties piled high with crisp vegetables on a grilled bun, served with fresh cut fries and handspun ice cream shakes. Starting today, orders can be placed through Caviar, DoorDash, GrubHub, PostMates and UberEats, use the CaliBurger mobile app to order instantly, or schedule an advance order or curbside pickup at Union Kitchen.

Good Stuff Eatery (Georgetown) Food Review II

Nashville Hot Chicken

Good Stuff Eatery is one of my favorite burger joints in town (Spike's Sunnyside is a work of art) but even the best have bad days; and (sadly) today was one of those days. I stopped by the Georgetown location to grab an early dinner, just before 6. When I arrived, there was nobody else in line. If you've ever been, you know this is the exception to a normally busy, busy rule. After exchanging hellos, I placed an order for two new menu items... The Nashville Hot Chicken burger and one of two new hand spun shakes (Black Forest.) GSE offers a Good Stuff Deal ($6.95 for a Snack Fry and Mini Shake, a savings of $.69.) I asked if I could swap out the Fries for Onion Petals, and the cashier had to ask his colleague for a ruling. Long story short, no dice. He went ahead and rang up the Onion Petals ($3.69, almost a dollar more than the fries.) Not so fast, I was genuinely confused by the explanation (which included an offer of a courtesy cup of water in place of a soda I didn't order) and asked for the Snack Fry instead. Several misclicks later, I was charged the proper amount ($16.06 + tax.) From there, I was instructed to select a tip on the iPad-like touchscreen. Talk about awkward, as the cashier stared at me to see if I was (presumably) cheap or not. Ever hear of a tip jar? My advice? Erase this option immediately. For the record, I coughed up 10% for what would be a less than sterling meal.

BurgerFi Food Review II

The CEO (r) and Cry+Fry

First impressions are "muy importante," and my inaugural visit to BurgerFi (back in January 2014) went about as good great as it gets. That's a lot to live up to; yet each return trip has been as good, if not better. Time to make it official. Time for another review.

Tasty Burger Food Review

The Big Tasty (sans cheese)

Once upon a time, there was Nightclub 9:30 and (practically) nothing else. Nowadays, the area between Shaw and the U Street Corridor is a hub of activity... buoyed by the recent additions of Landmark's Atlantic Plumbing Cinema and Tasty Burger. The latter opened just two weeks ago, but already appears to be a neighborhood favorite/fixture. After my first visit earlier today, it's easy to see why.
