Predictions for 97th Annual Academy Awards

This year's Oscars telecast is flying under the radar, probably in part to a lack of good, yet alone great movies. Conan O'Brien is hosting, so there is (some level of) hope, but regardless of the caliber, predictions must be made. If nothing else, this could be the most difficult Oscars to predict in recent memory.

Predictions for 94th Annual Academy Awards

Tick, tock... tick, tock. Cue beads of sweat across my forehead. Why so anxious? The 94th annual Academy Awards starts in just over an hour, and I haven't even started to post my predictions. Last year was... a pass, fresh off an unimpressive 8 (correct) out of 11 in 2020. So without further adieu, let's dive in.

My computer’s down, so I’m going to be extra brief with this year’s Oscars predictions (iPads have their limitations... one of which is typing.) For those of you who actually care about the whys and why nots, I promise to do better next year. Until then, on with the picks.

Predictions for 91st Annual Academy Awards

I was 10-0 last year, heading into the final Best Picture announcement. And then the bottom fell out. The Shape of Water took top honors, besting Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and delaying my quest for a perfect Oscars until this year. Hope springs eternal, and I'm going all-in on my favorite movie of the year (Green Book) versus Netflix's Roma (and deep pockets.) Can a 135-minute B&W marathon about nothing, upset one of the year's most entertaining movies? Let's hope not. Can yours truly finally claim perfection? Time will tell.

Predictions for 90th Annual Academy Awards

So close. I was 9-0 last year, with Best Actor & Picture on deck. Finally, an undefeated Oscars for yours truly; but alas, it wasn't meant to be. Casey Affleck edged out Denzel Washington for the former, and Moonlight topped La La Land in the now infamous Best Picture presentation. Still, 9-2 in back-to-back years ain't half bad. This year? Your guess is literally as good as mine. The Shape of Water leads all films with 13 nominations, but how many will it win? Will Jordan Peele (Get Out) become the first African-American to capture Best Director? Will this be the year I finally get 'em all right? Tune in tonight to find out.
