Capitals Re-Sign Alex Ovechkin

Stanley Cup champion and NHL’s all-time leading goal scorer returns for 22nd season, becoming the longest-tenured athlete in the history of Washington, DC sports.

The Washington Capitals have re-signed captain Alex Ovechkin to a one-year contract extension, Senior Vice President and General Manager Chris Patrick announced today. Ovechkin will earn $1 million in salary, a $4.75 million games-played bonus (10 games) and a $3.25 million signing bonus. Ovechkin’s contract will carry an average annual value of $4.25 million.

The Washington Capitals have acquired Alex Tuch from the Buffalo Sabres for a third-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft (originally from San Jose) and forward David Kämpf, senior vice president and general manager Chris Patrick announced today. Prior to the trade, Buffalo signed Tuch to an eight-year, $84 million contract extension. Tuch’s contract will carry an average annual value of $10.5 million.

D.C. United acquires dynamic Israeli International forward and MLS All-Star Tai Baribo in a cash-for-player trade from the Philadelphia Union in exchange for $4 million. The Black-and-Red could send up to an additional $600,000 to Philadelphia if Baribo meets certain performance incentives. The club has signed Baribo to a multi-year Designated Player contract that will keep him with the Black-and-Red through the 2029-30 MLS season.

Restaurateur Ashok Bajaj Announces The Opening of Malabar

Malabar replaces Knightsbridge Restaurant Group’s Rosedale, bringing modern Indian fare to the Forest Hills neighborhood of Washington

Ashok Bajaj of Knightsbridge Restaurant Group announces the mid-December closing of the year-old restaurant, Rosedale, to be replaced by Malabar in mid-January 2026. Located at 4465 Connecticut Avenue, NW, 20008, in the Forest Hills neighborhood in the northwest quadrant of the nation’s capital, the incoming restaurant, Malabar, will bring modern Indian fare, with a culinary team led by Group Executive Chef Vikram Sunderam. The restaurant is named after the Malabar Coast, which is the southwestern region of the Indian subcontinent. For the transformation, the restaurant will undergo a décor refresh with the installation of striking new artwork in the 100-seat dining room. The patio, which seats 30 guests for outdoor dining, weather permitting, will have a more tropical vibe as summer 2026 returns warmer weather to the nation’s capital.  Malabar will serve dinner and Sunday brunch and is within easy walking distance of the Van Ness UDC Metro station.
