Team Claims fifth consecutive Eastern Conference Championship with win over Philadelphia

The Washington Kastles will look to claim a record-breaking fifth consecutive Mylan World TeamTennis title after cruising to win their fifth Mylan WTT Eastern Conference Championship in a row Thursday evening 25-9 over the Philadelphia Freedoms in Washington, DC. The Kastles will host the winner of tonight’s Mylan WTT Western Conference Championship between the Austin Aces and California Dream on Sunday at 11:30 AM ET. The championship match is set to air live on ESPN3, with ESPN2 joining in progress at 1:00 PM ET.

This season's early hiccups appear to be way, way behind the Washington Kastles. Two home losses in a row? Mere bumps along the road to an unprecedented fifth straight WTT championship. It hasn't happened yet; but trust me, no-one's gonna stop the Kastles now that Martina Hingis is back with the team. Hingis made her much-anticipated home debut yesterday, leading the Kastles to a 24-16 win over the Springfield Lasers. With the win, Washington improves to 8-3: Springfield drops to 3-9.

The Washington Kastles took sole possession of first place in the Eastern Conference last night, sweeping all five sets from the Boston Lobsters 25-13 before a sold-out crowd at Charles E. The win improves Washington's record to 5-3, and gives them the inside track on home court advantage throughout the playoffs (including a potential fifth straight Mylan World TeamTennis title.)

Martina who? Just kidding Ms. Hingis (we still love you, still want you back) but what a difference, two wins in a row makes. Hingis' replacement, Madison Brengle was particularly awesome yesterday, winning Women's Doubles and Singles in convincing style (5-1 and 5-0 respectively.) That was only part of the Washington Kastles' domination on Saturday, as they rallied from a Mixed Doubles defeat to topple the Philadelphia Freedoms 23-6 at Charles E. Smith Center. Washington improved to 4-2, and took over sole possession of first place in the Eastern Conference. Philly dropped to 1-5 (tied for worst in the league.)
