Captain Cookie Soft Opens in Cleveland Park!

It felt like forever, but Captain Cookie has opened its doors in Cleveland Park. Their soft opening started today, with an official opening set for Saturday, September 9th. The setup is simple, with a few stools by the front window, and a couple of tables before the sales counter. Cool ceiling-to-floor artwork greets you as you walk inside, and there were a few paintings set to hit the walls over the next couple of days. Other than that, clean and spacious.

As for the chow... cookies, ice cream and milkshakes, all reasonably priced (for Cleveland Park.) The cookies are made from scratch, available in seven flavors (chocolate chip, double chocolate, Funfetti, oatmeal raisin, peanut butter, snickerdoodle and vegan chocolate chip.) $2 each, $9 for a half dozen and $18 for a baker's dozen. (My GF) Talia and I settled on chocolate chip and snickerdoodle, both nicely sized with decidedly different textures. The former, hard and chewy with delicious chocolate flavor. The latter, soft and tasty. Neither cookie was sweet. In fact, just the opposite. I prefer mine sweeter as a rule, but it will take a few more batches to gauge a pattern.

We shared a strawberry milkshake (7 bucks) which came with a dreaded paper straw. It was thick, and (thus) hard to drink, with a noticeable strawberry tang, but as with the cookies, little to no sweetness. Perhaps one of their $7 (local) ice cream sandwiches would have been better, wedged inside your choice of top and bottom cookies (or open face for a dollar less.)

What impressed me the most was the service, as in exemplary. Both employees were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Cleveland Park is a neighborly neighborhood, and familiar/friendly service goes a long, long way. That alone guarantees many more visits, and I'm excited to see what kind of outdoor seating is available when/if the service lane/corridor reopens.
