Welcome to Bubbly Hour & Sakana Hour at Zeppelin
A new happy hour showcases bubbly cocktails & sushi specials at one of Washington’s most exciting new restaurants
Mixologists and brothers Ari and Micah Wilder, along with their partners Adrian Williams and Minoru Ogawa, are pleased to introduce two new happy hours at their latest concept, Zeppelin, located at 1544 9th Street, NW. The sleek space pays homage to the Golden Age of the Great Passenger Airships and is the perfect gathering place to enjoy Edomae (Edo-style) sushi and craft cocktails. Japanophiles are encouraged to stop by for Sakana Hour, which is available exclusively at the second-floor, 20-seat sushi counter. Sakana Hour is served seven days a week, from 4 PM to 6 PM and boasts an extensive selection of sushi, available at discounted pricing. Guests can look forward to a rotating list of nigiri, hand-selected by distinguished Executive Chef/Partner Minoru Ogawa. A second-generation sushi chef with four decades of experience, Ogawa carefully chooses fish from the Toyosu Market in Tokyo, Japan, which are imported directly to the restaurant. Signature pieces are priced from $2 to $3 each, and include Iwana, arctic char; Maguro, tuna; Tako, octopus boiled in-house with Mirin and sake; Suzuki, bronzini; Sawara, Spanish mackerel and Hirame, flounder.
Those in need of a refreshment are encouraged to stop by the first-floor cocktail bar and expansive patio for Bubbly Hour, which is also available seven days a week, from 4 PM to 7 PM. Bubbly Hour offers two vintage Champagnes by the glass, available at half-price, along with $3 Sapporo drafts and a $6 specialty highball, the Toki Baller with Toki, lemon peel and baller bubbles, from the restaurant’s Toki Highball Machine.
Designed by innovative mixologists Ari and Micah Wilder, Zeppelin’s cocktail program focuses on Japanese spirits, bubbles, ice and simplicity. Their innovative highballs blend Japanese spirits with a new line of cocktail vinegars the brothers have developed through their cocktail mixers company and other signature syrups with Japanese inspired bubbles from this customized machine. Enhancing flavors with pandan, passion fruit, stone fruits, fermented Yuzu Kosho and Sansho blends laced in the Champagne “baller bubbles.” “We really wanted to start off with a very carefully manicured and cultivated program, and really keep it true to the original form, and not let it go so far out of that,” says Micah Wilder. “We spotlight Japanese spirits they can’t find elsewhere, and really cool, clean, bubbly cocktails that are not overly boozy.”
Zeppelin is located on 1544 9th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001. Zeppelin serves dinner Sunday through Thursday, from 4 PM to 1 AM; Friday and Saturday, from 4 PM to 2 AM. Brunch will debut at a later date. The restaurant is situated two blocks from the Shaw-Howard University metro station accessible on the yellow and green lines.
