Customizable Winter Whites at Oceanaire

White after Labor Day? Absolutely. At Oceanaire Seafood Room at 1201 F Street, NW in Washington, DC, winter whites are not only encouraged, they are a staple.

From January 8 through March 9th, the restaurant offers Whites of Winter - an opportunity for guests are invited to create their own white wine flight of four vintage tastes from 15 sommelier-selected vintages from around the world at priced at $19. Additional flight tastes above the four can be added at $5 each.

Choices include Trimbach, Pinot Blanc, Alsace, France; Château Beaulieu, Rosé, Coteaux d’Aix en Provence, France; La Caña, Albariño, Rías Baixas, Spain; J Vineyards, Pinot Gris, California, USA; Château de la Ragotière, Muscadet Sèvre et Maine, Loire, France; Chehalem, "Ridgecrest Vineyards," Grüner Veltliner, Ribbon Ridge, Oregon, USA; Robert Weil, “Tradition,” Riesling, Rheingau, Germany; Tozai, “Snow Maiden,” Junmai Nigori, Sake, Kyoto, Japan; Gabbiano, “Promessa,” Pinot Grigio, delle Venezie IGT, Italy; Domaine de la Perrière, Sancerre, (Sauvignon Blanc), Loire, France; Giesen, Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand; Butter Block, Chardonnay, Santa Maria Valley, USA; Castello della Sala, "Bramito del Cervo," Chardonnay, Umbria IGT, Italy; Vietti, Moscato d’Asti DOCG, Italy and St. Supéry, Moscato, Napa Valley, USA.

Not only is this meal delicious, it can also be good for one’s health. With American Heart Month coming up in February, it’s important to note that research has suggested that white wines are as good for the heart as red, and they can have positive effects on cholesterol levels. Plus, the omega-3 fatty acids in fish are good for the heart. Eating one to two servings of fish a week could reduce your risk of dying of a heart attack.
