World Class Cycling Rides Back into Arlington This June

From our friends at the Air Force Association Cycling Classic...

The Air Force Association Cycling Classic: June 13-14, 2015, Featuring Professional and Amateur Races, Challenge Ride and Kids Races

In partnership with The Boeing Company, the D.C. area’s premier cycling event, the Air Force Association Cycling Classic, returns to Arlington for its 18th year June 13-14, 2015. The weekend's race festivities are open to cycling enthusiasts of all abilities and will feature events for cycling professionals, amateurs, politicos, kids and spectators.

Activities include pro races for qualified professionals as part of the prestigious National Criterium Calendar; the Challenge Ride, a non-competitive ride for cycling enthusiasts of all abilities; the Navy Federal Credit Union Armed Forces Challenge; the USAA Congressional Challenge where Republican and Democrat Hill staffers will compete for top honors; a kids race in both Clarendon and Crystal City and more.

The Air Force Association’s Wounded Airman Program is the primary beneficiary of the event, receiving proceeds from pledges made by Team Sabre and from additional fundraising activities throughout the weekend. The Wounded Airman Program supports wounded, ill and injured Airmen with adaptive equipment needs, financial support and care and quality of life items.

Event Highlights:

Kids Race: The Ethan Klancnik Memorial Kids Race supports Tay-Sachs Awareness and Prevention, and will take place in Clarendon on Saturday, June 13 and in Crystal City on Sunday, June 14.

• Challenge Ride: The Challenge Ride is an amateur, non-competitive, participatory ride, open to cyclists of all abilities. The ride will be held on a closed, 15km circuit in and around the Pentagon, Crystal City and the Air Force Memorial. Bronze, silver and gold medals will be awarded for those who can complete 2, 4 or 6 laps within the 3-hour course closure (June 14, Crystal City).

• Thales Corporate Challenge: Part of the Challenge Ride, the Thales Corporate Challenge will track both laps competed and money raised by each Corporate Challenge Team.

• Navy Federal Credit Union Armed Forces Challenge: A special race for those who served our country, the service branch whose participants completes the most laps, as well as the fastest 6 laps, will be honored and recognized on stage during Sunday’s Men’s Pro race.

• USAA Congressional Challenge: House and Senate staffers from both sides of the aisle go head-to-head in this fun race. At the end of the race, lap totals will determine which party gets to take home the win to Capitol Hill.
