Campers and staff from Deaf Film Camp at upstate New York’s Camp Mark Seven will be at the Newseum on Sunday, Oct. 19, at 3:30 p.m. for a live performance of their recent hit video, in which campers performed Pharrell Williams’ song “Happy” in sign language. The sensational performance has been viewed more than 960,000 times on YouTube. There will be sign language interpreters for both deaf and hearing visitors for the program. Plan your visit now!
Deaf Film Camp, launched in July 2013, teaches screenwriting, directing, cinematography, editing and clay animation to deaf and hard of hearing campers ages 13 to 16. Deaf faculty at Deaf Film Camp hail from Paris, London, South Africa and New York City.
When Arby’s tweeted at Pharrell Williams during the 2014 GRAMMY Awards, they created a social media frenzy over the Vivienne Westwood-designed, fast-food-logo-lookalike hat the nominated musician wore on the red carpet. Now, the hat that became an internet sensation and raised $44,100 for the singer’s From One Hand to AnOTHER foundation.
After the performance, campers will have a chance to check out Pharrell Williams’s Grammy hat, which is on display in the Newseum’s New York Times Great Hall of News through Oct. 26, 2014.
