Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club Announces "An Evening with The Shirelles" on October 17

Bethesda’s Blues & Jazz hosts the first girl group to top the Billboard Hot 100

Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club (Bethesda Blues and Jazz) will host The Shirelles on October 17, 2014 at 8:00 p.m. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, led by original member Beverly Lee, will perform their show “An Evening with The Shirelles,” for longtime fans of the trendsetting group.

Formed in 1957 by four classmates for a high school talent show, The Shirelles were spotted by a classmate, and soon persuaded to sign with Tiara Records. Working with renowned songwriter and producer Luther Dixon, the group gained the spotlight with “Tonight’s the Night,” and soon after secured their place in history by being the first African-American all-girl group with a Billboard number-one hit by releasing “Will You Love Me Tomorrow.” With Dionne Warwick joining the group intermittently, The Shirelles continued to tour throughout the late 50s and early 60s. The group predated Motown, and its popularity across racial lines paved the way for future girl groups and female pop stars.

“We are pleased to have a performance by The Shirelles, legends from the golden era of Rock and Roll,” said Rick Brown, Bethesda Blues & Jazz owner. “They are the forerunners of all female groups today, and I know our audience will enjoy their energy and classic hits.”

Ticket prices range from $35-45 with both dance floor and reserved table seating, and can either be preordered online or at the door. To preorder, please visit the Bethesda Blues & Jazz website.
