Audiences Will Hear Songs From "The Last Southern Gentlemen," the First Collaborative Album by Father and Son

Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club (Bethesda Blues & Jazz) is honored to welcome “The Last Southern Gentlemen” Tour featuring Ellis Marsalis Jr. and Delfeayo Marsalis on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 8:30 PM. This tour marks a special and rare summer appearance of Ellis, Jr., the patriarch to the legendary Marsalis family and his son, Delfeayo, to the Washington D.C. area. It is a show not to be missed!

Built on the intimacy of American ballads and the trombone’s expressive mimicry of the human voice, The Last Southern Gentlemen is a firm acknowledgement of the existence and importance of these sweet, gentle sounds. Delfeayo is known for his exotic and creative trombone playing and he has toured with notable artists, including Ray Charles. Delfeayo has also produced over 100 recordings for major artists, including Spike Lee, Marcus Roberts, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and the projects of his father, Ellis Jr.. Ellis Jr., inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame, is highly recognized for his jazz-piano style playing. He has been the prime role model to children coming up in the jazz world. In January 2011, the entire Marsalis family earned the nation’s highest jazz honor, a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters Award.

"We are excited to announce this landmark one-night only show featuring Delfeayo Marsalis and Ellis Marsalis, Jr.," says Bethesda Blues & Jazz' proprietor, Rick Brown. "We are honored to feature the Marsalis lineage on this stage. This will be a special evening as Ellis Jr. does not tour frequently, and audience members will delight to songs that were created in collaboration with his son, Delfeayo. It will be a night to remember."

Ticket prices are $30.00 and can either be preordered online or purchased at the door. To preorder, please visit the Bethesda Blues & Jazz website.
