Living legend Julio Iglesias |
From our friends at the Strathmore...
Top-Selling Latin Artist in History Brings His Charisma, Suave and Pasión for the Arts to Strathmore Fête
It’s undeniable - Julio Iglesias has built a career on passion. With hits like “To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before,” “All of You” and “Hey,” his voluminous song catalogue simply oozes with it. In addition to his on-stage suave, he’s also a passionate advocate for music and has made a life in the arts—and in this way Strathmore and Julio Iglesias are a perfect pairing for Una Noche de Pasión. The singer ignites the Music Center stage for the 2014 Spring Gala at Strathmore on Saturday, April 26, 2014. For more information or to purchase tickets, call (301) 581-5100 or visit www.strathmore.org.
Gala guests will begin the evening at 5:30 p.m. with cocktails, followed by a sumptuous dinner, concert with Julio Iglesias and an after party with Big Ray and the Kool Kats.
In the 45 years of his unstoppable career, Julio Iglesias has sold more than 300 million copies of his 80 albums released worldwide, including original versions in various languages, compilations and live albums. He has been formally recognized as the top-selling Latin artist in history. 60 million fans have seen him perform live at 5,000 concerts in 600 cities. He was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and was named a UNICEF Special Ambassador for the Performing Arts. He was also recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the artist who has sung and recorded in the most languages in the history of music, receiving the only Diamond Disc ever issued by this institution. Iglesias has sung duets with iconic artists such as Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, Willie Nelson, Diana Ross, Dolly Parton, Art Gurfunkel, Paul Anka, Sting, The Beach Boys, and Spanish artists Plácido Domingo and Lola Flores.
He is also the recipient of a Grammy Award, American Music Awards, and the prestigious ASCAP Pied Piper Award, the highest award of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. Iglesias has been honored internationally by the Chinese Ministry of Culture, the decoration of Knight of the Legion of Honor (France), and Spanish Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts. He is also one of the first five artists invited into the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame, inaugurated in Miami in 2013.
His recent 2013 world tour tirelessly crisscrossed the globe, with concerts in such countries as Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, United Arab Emirates, Philippines, South Korea, China, Singapore, Taiwan, Guatemala, Mexico, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Norway, Israel, Jordan, Latvia, Romania, Indonesia and Japan.
