Strathmore Presents Sutton Foster October 12th

Sutton Foster - October 12th at Strathmore

From our friends at Strathmore...

Broadway star performs a variety of musical theater hits and tracks from debut album

Television star and two-time Tony winner Sutton Foster delivers a diverse performance of Broadway show-stoppers and songs from her debut solo album, Wish, on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 8 p.m. in the Music Center at Strathmore. Accompanied by music director Michael Rafter and featuring songs from her critically acclaimed performances in shows such as Anything Goes and Thoroughly Modern Millie, as well as selections from other iconic musicals, the concert of timeless hits and popular favorites demonstrates why Foster is “unmatched by any performer on Broadway at the moment” (The New York Times). For more information or to purchase tickets, call (301) 581-5100 or visit www.strathmore.org.

This performance is sponsored by Shugoll Research.

Sutton Foster is best known for her performance as the title role in Thoroughly Modern Millie, originating the role of Princess Fiona in Shrek the Musical, and revitalizing the iconic character Reno Sweeney in the 2011 revival of Cole Porter’s classic, Anything Goes. Having been nominated for five Tony Awards, two of which she won for Best Leading Actress in a Musical, Foster most recently took her talents to the small screen in the ABC television series “Bunheads” in 2012. In 2009 she released her first solo album, Wish, a varied compilation of songs ranging from jazz standards to Broadway to pop and folk, which debuted to rave reviews. Her second album, An Evening With Sutton Foster – Live at the Café Carlyle, is a 20-song tour de force commemorating her sold out run of concerts at New York’s Café Carlyle, featuring songs from her debut album as well as Broadway favorites.

Foster got her start at the age of 15 on the television show “Star Search”, and began her professional career shortly thereafter. With numerous musicals and plays under her belt, an ongoing television show, a solo album and several upcoming movie roles, Foster has drawn comparisons to Julie Andrews, Mary Tyler Moore and Carol Burnett. Time Magazine notes that she is “the full package: girlish gawkiness and Broadway brass, the legs and the lungs.”
