WWE Champion Randy Orton works over Daniel Bryan |
Verizon Center wasn't even half-full for yesterday's WWE Supershow at Verizon Center; but that didn't stop the lower bowl faithful from screaming up a storm (especially in Section 103... as luck would have it, my section.) Superstars Curtis Axel, The Big Show, Daniel Bryan and CM Punk joined WWE champion Randy Orton in delighting fans with three hours of heart-pounding, high-flying action.
In the main event, Orton defeated pint-sized challenger Bryan after some beneficial interference from The Shield. Chants of "Yes, yes, yes," soon turned into "No, no, no" before several good guys, including Rob Van Dam ran into the ring to save Bryan from any further damage.
CM Punk sneaks up on Intercontinental Champ Curtis Axel (r) |
The co-main event featured a No Disqualifications match between Intercontinental Champ Curtis Axel and former WWE Champion CM Punk. The bout was supposed to be for Axel's belt, but Paul Heyman nixed those plans in a pre-match announcement. Bad idea. CM Punk entered the ring with a Kendo stick, which he promptly used to smash up Axel and Heyman. With the title no longer on the line, CM Punk made short order of the champ, pinning him for the win; before setting his sights on Heyman again, mercilessly pounding him all the way back to the dressing room.
Big Show (r) puts a hurting on Roman Reigns |
Van Dam returned to Verizon Center after a long absence, teaming up with Big Show to challenge WWE Tag Team Champs Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. The challengers dominated the match; but had to settle for a win by DQ, after US Champ Dean Ambrose interfered on behalf of his fellow Shield members. Earlier, Ambrose defeated R-Truth in the card's second match (by pinfall.)
The Wyatt Family makes their DC debut |
Dolph Ziggler defeated Big E Langston by pinfall.
Ryback manhandled Kofi Kingston, winning by pinfall.
Kaitlyn, Naomi & Natalya defeated Layla, Brie (or Nikki... they're identical twins, right?) Bella and AJ Lee by pinfall. No winner of the "Dance-off" was announced.
The Wyatt Family crushed The Usos in a tag-team match (by pinfall.)
One of my favorites Mark Henry was scheduled to appear, but the "World's Strongest Man" injured his right hamstring the night before in Boston: We wish him a speedy recovery. WWE returns to Verizon Center on December 29th for SmackDown. Next stop? Des Moines, Iowa, tonight on Raw (USA Network at 9:00 PM.)
