The Black-and-Red Signs Baribo to a Five-Year Designated Player Contract Until 2029-30

D.C. United acquires dynamic Israeli International forward and MLS All-Star Tai Baribo in a cash-for-player trade from the Philadelphia Union in exchange for $4 million. The Black-and-Red could send up to an additional $600,000 to Philadelphia if Baribo meets certain performance incentives. The club has signed Baribo to a multi-year Designated Player contract that will keep him with the Black-and-Red through the 2029-30 MLS season.

Perhaps this is the year DC United wins its fifth MLS championship? United (11-5-4) won its third straight match last night, dominating Chivas USA 3-1 before an appreciative crowd of 13,732 at RFK Stadium. The win snapped Chivas' four-game winning streak, and allowed DC United to stay one point behind Sporting Kansas City (with a game in hand) in the Eastern Conference standings.

It was East vs. West at RFK Stadium last night, as DC United hosted the Seattle Sounders in a battle of MLS conference leaders. Forward Chad Barrett headed home a Gonzalo Pineda cross with six minutes left in the first half, to put Seattle up 1-0; and Sounders' goalkeeper Stefan Frei kept DC United scoreless (despite a game-high 15 shots) for his fifth shutout of the season.

One streak ends, and another begins. After snapping the fifth-longest winless streak in MLS history last week, DC United won its second straight match of this young season... staving off the visiting New York Red Bulls 1-0 in front of a joyous crowd of 12,364 at RFK Stadium. Veteran midfielder Davy Arnaud scored the game's only goal on a diving header in the fourth minute; and backup goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra pitched his second straight shutout in relief of starter Bill Hamid, as United improved to 2-2-1.

It was hardly a picturesque setting at venerable RFK Stadium yesterday; but DC United broke its scoring drought, and came within a stone's throw of ending their now team-record 15 game winless streak... ultimately securing their first point of the season in a 2-2 tie with the visiting Chicago Fire before a rain-soaked crowd of 9,445.

DC United Hosts Home Opener Saturday

2011 MVP Dwayne De Rosario (r) will be M.I.A. on Saturday

DC United will be without 2011 MLS MVP Dwayne De Rosario this Saturday night, when they host their home opener at RFK Stadium versus Real Salt Lake. De Rosario, who missed seven games last year due to an MCL injury, was suspended for the first two games of the 2013 regular season for administering a head-butt to Philadelphia Union midfielder Danny Cruz during a February 23rd pre-season game in Kissimmee, Florida. United (0-1) lost last Saturday's season opener to the Houston Dynamo 2-0, and will be looking to even their record in front of a vocal RFK crowd... one you could be a part of (click here for tickets.)

Henry Visits RFK. Red Bulls, United Tie 2-2

RFK Stadium played host to soccer royalty earlier this evening, as Thierry Henry and the New York Red Bulls visited their arch-rivals DC United. After dominating the first half, the Red Bulls needed a late goal by Wilman Conde in the 88th minute to escape with a 2-2 tie. Conde's score spoiled a spirited second half effort by the home team, highlighted by Dwayne De Rosario's 100th career MLS goal.
