AFI DOCS, the American Film Institute's annual documentary celebration in the nation's capital, has announced the Opening and Closing Night films for its 15th annual edition. The festival will open with the East Coast premiere of Netflix's ICARUS, directed by Bryan Fogel, and will close with ESPN Films' YEAR OF THE SCAB, directed by Emmy-winner John Dorsey. Both screenings will be held at the Newseum, the festival's Official Gala Screening Partner. AFI DOCS runs June 14-18, 2017 in Washington, DC and Silver Spring, MD.

The Capital Irish Film Festival (CIFF) opens its 11th year Thursday, March 2, at 7:15 PM, with a moving documentary focusing on Northern Ireland. “Born and Reared” explores contemporary Northern Ireland through the lives of four men of different religions and backgrounds living in the aftermath of violent conflict. It is a story of reimagined identity in a place where religion and community defined which side you were on in three decades of civil unrest known as “The Troubles.” It asks the question, “What happens in the wake of conflict when the cameras leave?”

The American Film Institute (AFI) announced today the AFI DOCS 2016 Audience Award winners, concluding the five-day festival in Washington, DC, and Silver Spring, MD. This year's Audience Award for Best Feature went to MAYA ANGELOU: AND STILL I RISE, directed by Rita Coburn Whack and Bob Hercules (U.S.) This year's Audience Award for Best Short went to SNAILS, directed by Grzegorz Szczepaniak (Poland.) With 93 films from 30 countries, the festival brought together filmmakers, industry, national policy and opinion leaders.

The four-day Filmmaker Forum will take place June 23-26 at the AFI DOCS Festival Hub - located at the District Architecture Center, 421 7th Street, NW in Washington, DC - and is open to AFI DOCS Priority and Industry passholders as well as festival filmmakers. Filmmakers and industry professionals will meet for a series of professional development and networking events focused on diversity in documentary filmmaking, new technologies and the expanding world of documentary short filmmaking.

94 Films from 30 countries include three world premieres, screening June 22–26 in Washington, DC and Silver Spring, Maryland Today, the American Film Institute (AFI) announced the slate of films for AFI DOCS 1016, running June 22-26 in Washington, DC, and Silver Spring, Maryland. The 14th edition showcases 94 films representing 30 countries, including three world premieres, seven North American premieres, three U.S. premieres, 12 East Coast premieres and one international premiere. AFI DOCS 2016 screenings will take place in Washington, DC, at the Newseum and the Landmark E Street Cinema, and in Silver Spring, Maryland at the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center.
