Men’s Basketball Challenges but Falls to Richmond, 90-74
The Richmond Spiders came to D.C. Saturday looking to secure a road win in its quest to boost its NCAA Tournament resume. Tied atop the top of the conference with Dayton and Loyola Chicago with just two conference loses, the Spiders had to battle to thwart GW's second half comeback attempt in a 90-74 decision for the visitors.
After allowing a .767 field goal percentage in the first half to trail by 15 at the break, 52-37, the GW Revs resolved to not go down quietly. Playing without starter Garrett Johnson, last year's A-10 honorees James Bishop IV and Maximus Edwards had to pick up some slack, with Bishop logging the full 40:00 and netting a team-high 23 points, while Edwards flirted with 20 in an efficient 19-point performance that came with three 3-point field goals (6-of-10 FG overall).

The GW Revs sliced Richmond's first half shooting show in half in the second, allowing just a .382 FG% in the closing 20 minutes, but the damage was done. Despite cutting the deficit to four at 63-59 following a Bishop three with 9:31 to play, George Washington seemed to have little left in the tank thereafter, with the Spiders finishing the contest on a 27-15 run.

Jordan King paced Richmond with a game-high 24 points after dropping 32 in the previous meeting between the teams. Neal Quinn was ultra efficient inside for Richmond, with the center scoring 19 points on 9-of-12 shots from the interior.

A zone defense helped GW claw back in the second after a halftime adjustment, but the veteran Spiders were able to hold on. George Washington's next opportunity to snap its losing skid comes Wednesday at St. Joe's in a 7 p.m. tip in Philly.
