Men’s Basketball Battles but Is Beaten by Loyola Chicago, 81-73

In Loyola Chicago's first-ever visit to D.C. as a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, GW had the storied program down 66-59 with just over five minutes to play. The Ramblers didn't panic though, with George Washington starters Babatunde Akingbola and Darren Buchanan out for the stretch run, and closed the game on a 22-7 run to steal the win, 81-73.

The GW Revs battled, answering back from a 37-29 halftime deficit to take the late seven-point lead. James Bishop IV was critical in the surge, getting to the line even when his shot wasn't falling. Now third all-time in program history in points, Bishop went 10-of-11 from the free throw line, playing aggressively throughout en route to his game-high 25 points.

George Washington's path on the comeback trail after intermission was paved on the defensive end, limiting the Ramblers to 2-of-13 from three-point range in the final 20 minutes, and .410 overall from the field in the second.

Garrett Johnson (#9) scored 13 points

Ultimately the visitors' depth just proved to be much, especially after Akingbola fouled out and Buchanan left with injury, as Loyola went six-deep off the bench and outscored GW's reserves 24-10 in the eight-point game.
