Scream VI Movie Review

Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown & Mason Gooding (r) star in Scream VI

Stalker Much?

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: Following the latest Ghostface killings, the four survivors leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter. Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.

Starring: Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega, Hayden Panettiere, and Courteney Cox, alongside Jack Champion, Henry Czerny, Liana Liberato, Dermot Mulroney, Devyn Nekoda, Tony Revolori, Josh Segarra, and Samara Weaving

What's Good: Ghostface declares, "There's a first time for everything," and Scream 6 has plenty of firsts, most of them good. New venue (New York City) new transportation (subway) new mask, even a shotgun! Scream 6 ups the ante on gore, suspense and violence with surprising effectiveness. and the new faces prove more than capable of running the show (with a little bit of help from mainstays Cox and Panettiere.)

What's Not: This franchise has always tried to keep its' main players alive (despite the best worst efforts of countless Ghostfaces) but the survival rate in Scream 6 is downright ridiculous. For example one character is stabbed on two different occasions, but doesn't even so much as grimace or limp after. This needs to stop!

Budget: $33-35 million

Runtime: 122 minutes (Just right.)

Target Audience: Scream fans, duh!

Bottom Line: Brown's Mindy screams, "Fuck this franchise!" but truth be told, Scream appears set to give the Fast & Furious crew a bonafide run for their sequelfied (sic) money. It's not a reboot per se, but an effective refresh that pays just enough homage to the OGs while winning over future fanatics. I still miss Dewey, but can't wait for the next one.

Grade: B
