John Wick: Chapter 4 Movie Review

Keanu Reeves stars in John Wick: Chapter 4

A Way Out

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: John Wick (Keanu Reeves) uncovers a path to defeating The High Table. But before he can earn his freedom, Wick must face off against a new enemy with powerful alliances across the globe and forces that turn old friends into foes. Directed by Chad Stahelski.

Starring: Keanu Reeves, Donnie Yen, Bill SkarsgÄrd, Laurence Fishburne, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson, Lance Reddick, Rina Sawayama, Scott Adkins, and Ian McShane.

What's Good: Everything. No, really... everything. Chapter 4 matches The Matrix Reloaded (a film with obvious parallels) for our favorite action movie of all-time. It opens with Reeves on horseback (shooting bad guys, of course) in a Moroccan desert, and never looks back. His mission is familiar, "I'm going to kill them all," but the way he does it is... breathtaking. There isn't a single moment of boredom throughout, or one character/setting out of place. Even the story is sensational. I literally can't wait to see it again (and again.)

What's Not: Is it implausible? Of course it is, but it's so expertly executed, it simply doesn't matter. And just think, this is the fourth movie in the franchise (past the time most "jump the shark.")

Budget: N/A

Runtime: 169 minutes (It passes in the blink of an eye.)

Target Audience: Anyone with a pulse.

Bottom Line: If Tom Cruise saved Hollywood with last year's Top Gun: Maverick, then Reeves & company are about to send it over the moon (and it's not even April yet!) It's hard to imagine any other movie coming close to eclipsing it, this year or the next.

Grade: A+
