GW Volleyball Reveals 2018 Slate
Colonials to play 13 matches at home
A total of 13 home matches at the Charles E. Smith Center, including a pair of non-conference tournaments, highlights the George Washington volleyball team's 2018 schedule.
A total of 13 home matches at the Charles E. Smith Center, including a pair of non-conference tournaments, highlights the George Washington volleyball team's 2018 schedule.
The 2018 season marks the second under head coach Sarah Bernson, who led the Colonials the semifinal round at last season's Atlantic 10 Championship.
"Our non-conference schedule will provide us a few benchmarks for evaluating our team as we grow and adjust to new lineups," said Bernson. "In our four-week tournament schedule, we will face conference champions (American, Howard, LIU Brooklyn) which have proven to be steady in their system and confidence. We will need to see how we match up and execute our own identity versus these teams and everyone in our 13 non-conference games. Our traveling to Bradley will be an opportunity to get our Chicago and Louisville athletes close to home. With the flight to Illinois and the trip to New York, we will have travel experience that should aid us as we travel within A-10 schedule."
The Buff and Blue will compete in four non-conference tournaments during the 2018 season, with a pair of them being contested at the Charles E. Smith Center.
The Colonials will open their home slate on August 25th when they take on American as part of their DC Challenge Tournament. The team will then go on the road for back-to-back tournaments before co-hosting their Dig the District Tournament with Georgetown September 14-15. The Colonials will welcome Alabama A&M, Hampton, Memphis, and Coppin State to the Smith Center for the inaugural, two-day tournament.
Four of GW's first five Atlantic 10 conference matches will be played in the Smith Center, before six of the Colonials' final nine matches come on the road.
The 2018 Atlantic 10 Championship will be held at VCU November 16-18, in Richmond, Virginia.
