The Oval Room's Countdown to the 12 Days of Christmas

John Melfi, the executive chef of power dining oasis, the Oval Room, is planning a total of 12 new menu items, savory, sweet and cocktail-related, as a nod to the 12 Days of Christmas carol, “On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me.” Every day counting down to Christmas, one new item will be added to the menu to be showcased that day, from Monday, December 11th through Saturday, December 23rd. Each special offering is exclusive to that date.
Four menu items Melfi will share from his daily reveal are the following: eight maids a milking translates to a dessert, Goats Milk Panna Cotta with brown turkey figs, toasted almond cereal, red wine syrup; six geese a laying showcases Goose Egg Ravioli, crispy Guanciale, roasted wild mushrooms, charred onions, duck fat béarnaise; three French hens, Cast Iron Skillet Roasted Poulet Rouge chicken and lobster, celery root purée, kaleidoscope carrots, pearl onions, winter truffle vinaigrette and a partridge in a pear tree, Roasted Seckel Pear Tartlet, pistachio ice cream, toasted pistachio streusel.
On the cocktail side of the, guests can anticipate twelve drummers drumming with The Drummer’s Drambuie made with Drambuie, Kahlua, cream, simple syrup, egg whites, garnished with bourbon-soaked Amarena cherries; ten lords a-leaping with the My Lord made with Crème de Cassis, gin and lime, topped with Champagne and garnished with blackberries, star anise and raspberries, and the seven swans a-swimming with the Swan Lake made with whiskey, half-and-half, white crème de cacao, simple syrup and Cointreau, garnished with an orange peel. One is sure to be more merry sipping these spirited libations.
The Oval Room is located at 800 Connecticut Avenue, NW in Washington, DC, one block from The White House and one block from Farragut West Metro station. Serving modern American cuisine, the restaurant is open Monday through Thursday, from 11:30 AM to 10 PM; Friday, from 11:30 AM to 10:30 PM, and Saturday, from 5:30 PM to 10:30 PM.
