Just Announced! Comic Icon Weird Al Yankovic at Strathmore

"Weird Al" Yankovic visits Strathmore, March 20, 2018

From our friends at Strathmore...

Strathmore Presents "Weird Al" Yankovic

The ridiculously self-indulgent, ill-advised vanity tour

Legendary comedian, parody wizard, and accordion ambassador “Weird Al” Yankovic will make his debut in the Music Center at Strathmore as part of his national Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Tour on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 8 PM. After his Mandatory World Tour - 200 dates at massive venues such as the Hollywood Bowl and Radio City Music Hall - the comic icon wanted to break from the high-octane theatrics he’s known for, opting for a more relaxed show that highlights his band of three decades and the music they’ve loved creating together. “A little musical palate cleanser,” in his words. Drawing from a catalogue of 14 studio albums, Yankovic promises to deliver a different set list every night that will feature the deep cuts and obscure tracks that have so endeared his fans. Opening the show is Yankovic’s longtime friend, Emo Philips. For more information or to purchase tickets, please call (301) 581-5100 or visit www.strathmore.org.

Tickets to this show go on sale to the general public on Friday, October 20, 2017 at 10 AM.

Few would have guessed that Yankovic - who as a shy, accordion-playing teenager got his start sending in homemade tapes to the Dr. Demento Radio Show - would go on to become a pop culture icon and the biggest-selling comedy recording artist of all time, with classic song and music video parodies such as “Eat It,” “Like a Surgeon,” “Smells Like Nirvana,” “Amish Paradise,” “White & Nerdy” and “Word Crimes.” Now in his fourth decade as America’s foremost song parodist, he has been honored with four Grammy Awards and 15 nominations, including a 2015 win for his 14th studio album Mandatory Fun, the first comedy album in history to debut at #1 on Billboard’s Top 200.

In May 2017, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced that Weird Al would be receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

In November 2017, Legacy Recordings will release the career-spanning Squeeze Box: The Complete Recordings of “Weird Al” Yankovic, including all 14 of his studio albums re-mastered for vinyl and CD format, plus a rarities album and 120-page book of photos from the archives, all housed in a replica of his signature accordion.
