Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Movie Review

Chris Pratt & Kurt Russell (r) star in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

We Are Family

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: Set to the all-new sonic backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, Marvel Studios' "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" continues the team's adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill's true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes' aid as the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand. Directed by James Gunn.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is confusing, overlong and ends relatively badly. But guess what? I loved it. Few (if any) superhero franchises embrace irreverence & self-deprecation as well as Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) & company. It's laugh-out-loud funny from its brilliantly-done opening credits to the very end, with gobs of action (and great music) in between. It's the kind of movie I usually dislike, but how could anyone say no to adorable Baby Groot, Rocket and even Celestial newcomer Ego (Kurt Russell?) Utterly original and destined to rule the box office for weeks, but really, really long (136 minutes.)

Grade: B
