The Citi Open Tennis Tournament will be held July 29 to August 6 at the Rock Creek Park Tennis Center on 16th and Kennedy Streets, NW. The international event continues to be a stalwart in the community, directly benefiting local kids and youth through the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation, the tournament’s owner and beneficiary. Courtside box seats and a variety of ticket packages will be available on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at www.citiopentennis.com or the hotline at (202) 721-9500.
Monfils returns to the Citi Open after his triumphant win in 2016, where he captured his first 500-level title on the ATP World Tour. The French powerhouse also achieved his career-high ranking of No. 6 last year, following his impressive run to the U.S. Open semifinals. Del Potro is a DC fan favorite, having won the tournament three times - in 2008, 2009, and 2013. Puig used her time in Washington in 2016 as a tune up for her pursuit of the gold medal in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and succeeded. Thiem comes to Washington for the first time in the hopes of capturing his 8th ATP World Tour title. Another fan favorite, Isner, also returns to Washington to be the first American to win the men’s singles crown in the U.S. capital since Andy Roddick in 2007.
“I couldn’t be more excited about our field. It speaks volumes for the caliber of players that want to commit early to play in DC,” said Keely O’Brien, the event’s newly minted tournament director. “I think it's a true testament to the hard work of our staff, volunteers, fans and even our sponsors to ensure a great experience for these players when they visit Washington, DC.” Each ticket provides fans access to the action on all six match courts for up to as many as 24 matches per session in the early rounds providing tremendous value for the ticket price. A ticket provides fans with one reserved seat on Stadium Court, as well as general admission on all outer courts on a first-come, first-served basis, as well as various onsite activities, concessions, social areas, and more. Tickets to gain admission to the tournament’s signature special events will be announced soon. The Citi Open Tennis Tournament is one of only 13 elite ATP World Tour 500-level events worldwide and the only one held in the United States. The tournament also features a WTA International Tournament, which provides fans the opportunity to watch simultaneous competitions of both world-class men’s and women’s tennis throughout the nine-day event. It is one of only five U.S. tournaments that include both men’s and women’s fields. Main draw matches of the tournament will be broadcast starting Monday, July 31, on Tennis Channel.
