Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Movie Review

Gal Gadot & Ben Affleck (r) star in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Fight Night

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill) share the screen in this Warner Bros./DC Entertainment co-production penned by David S. Goyer and Chris Terrio, and directed by Zack Snyder. Amy Adams and Diane Lane return as Lois Lane and Martha Kent, respectively. Also stars Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter and Gal Gadot.

Way to go Zack: You managed to ruin two Hollywood franchises in one film. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is convoluted, dark (literally and figuratively) humorless and surprisingly boring. It's also poorly cast: Affleck's a disaster (oh great, another Batman who growls/whispers) and Eisenberg might be the lamest villain of all-time. Shouldn't $250 million buy you a trace of character development or plausibility? Evidently not, but it does guarantee a myriad of senseless collisions, explosions and most importantly... sequels. Then again, what good is a sequel, if the first one sucks? Batman and Superman deserve (a lot) better.

Grade: C-

Upon Further Review: Batman v Superman is still way too dark (turn on some lights already!) but I must admit... Affleck's not half as bad, the second time around. Ditto for Snyder's attempt to entertain action-hungry fans, who might not require the same amount of laughs/story as older enthusiasts like myself. As for Gadot... the more, the merrier: Wonder Woman can't come soon enough (next summer.) Final verdict? I no longer hate it. That's progress, right?
