Occidental Invites Guests to Celebrate 110 Years

From our friends at Occidental Grill & Seafood...

A Year of Historic Food & Drink: Occidental Celebrates Its 110th Anniversary

Step Back in Time with Reinvigorated Dishes and Cocktails

Occidental Grill & Seafood invites patrons to celebrate its 110th anniversary by enjoying different classic American dishes and drinks each month throughout 2016. Occidental will spotlight a modernized dish and cocktail each month, with the cocktail offered all month and the featured dish available on Thursdays in a throwback to Occidental’s past. Guests will be glad to note Occidental’s continued commitment to local, seasonal ingredients in their reinvented classics.

During Thursdays in February, guests can dine on Occidental Grill & Seafood’s modern take on a Veal Oscar, a dish believed to have been named in honor of Sweden’s King Oscar II. Award-winning Executive Chef Rodney Scruggs and Chef de Cuisine Scott Perry are putting their spin on Veal Oscar, which is traditionally prepared with sautéed veal cutlets, crab meat, and Béarnaise. They have prepared a pan roasted veal loin roulade with asparagus, jumbo lump crabmeat, and Béarnaise. Fans of a classic Veal Oscar will note the introduction of fresh, local ingredients and sumptuous touches of brown butter salsify puree and veal marsala reduction.

Occidental Grill & Seafood is also modernizing the iconic Brandy Alexander cocktail, a rich and sweet cocktail perfect for winter. The Brandy Alexander, purportedly the favorite drink of Beatles star John Lennon, was originally made with gin, crème de cacao and heavy cream before brandy was swapped as the dominant spirit. Bar manager Aubrey Walkins brings the Brandy Alexander into the 21st century by utilizing Remy VSOP, infused with cinnamon for a unique warming quality. Walkins adds Tempus Fugit Crème de Cacao and coconut milk for an indulgent, creamy drink even vegan guests can enjoy.

These 2016 takes on classic dishes and beverages celebrate Occidental’s extensive history with fresh input from Occidental’s talented chefs and mixologist. This is the time to indulge in over a century of Occidental Grill & Seafood specialties while discovering new favorites.
