Coaches Vote Cardinals No. 7 in IWLCA Preseason Poll

From our friends at Catholic University Athletics...

Coaches of the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) have tabbed The Catholic University of America women's lacrosse team seventh in the 2016 Preseason Poll.

The Cardinals received 262 points in the preseason poll just ahead of No. 8 York College of Pennsylvania (242) and behind No. 7 Gettysburg College (270).

SUNY Cortland, the 2015 National Champions, is the unanimous number one in the IWLCA Division III Coaches' Poll. The Red Dragons are followed by No. 2 Trinity (Conn.) No. 3 Franklin & Marshall, and No. 4 Middlebury.

The 2015 Cardinals enjoyed their most successful season in history; capturing their seventh Landmark Conference Title and making an NCAA post season run to the Elite Eight. Catholic opened its 2015 season with a victory over the 2014 National Champions, Salisbury, and finished its season with an unblemished conference record (6-0.)

"Following our best season in program history it is exciting for this team to be ranked so high heading into the 2016 season," states CUA head coach Meghan McDonogh. "However as we learned last year preseason rankings are just that and this year's team looks forward to earning their ranking once the season begins."

Catholic will match up against five IWLCA preseason ranked teams including opening their 2016 campaign on February 27 when the visit No. 9 Salisbury. Also on the road, the Cards will take on No. 1 Cortland (March 13), No. 16 Washington & Lee (March 19) and No. 3 Franklin & Marshall (March 30). They will return home on April 13 to host No. 8 York (Pa.).
