Wizards Acquire Kelly Oubre Jr. in 2015 NBA Draft

Team Selects Aaron White in Second Round

Washington Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld announced tonight that the team has acquired Kelly Oubre Jr. (the 15th pick in the 2015 NBA Draft) from Atlanta in exchange for Jerian Grant (the 19th overall selection) and second round picks in 2016 and 2019. The Wizards also selected Aaron White (49th overall) in tonight’s NBA Draft.

"Kelly is a very talented and athletic young player who can play and defend both the shooting guard and small forward positions," said Grunfeld. "He has terrific upside, and can come into a situation where he can take his time and learn from our veterans."

Oubre Jr. (6-7, 200) averaged 9.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.1 steals while shooting .448 (104-232) from the field and .360 (32-89) from three-point range in his freshman year at Kansas. The New Orleans native was an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention choice and a finalist for the Wayman Tisdale Award, given to the National Freshman of the Year. Oubre Jr. was second on the Jayhawks in steals with 41 while leading Kansas in steals 11 times last season. He recorded three games of 20+ points and tallied three double-doubles during the 2014-15 campaign.

Aaron White is bringing his talents to DC

"Aaron is a very good all-around player who can score from inside and outside and runs the floor very well for a big man," said Grunfeld. "His combination of athleticism and high basketball IQ allowed him to have a very productive and consistent four years at Iowa."

White (6-9, 210) averaged 16.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.3 steals while shooting .521 (171-328) from the field and .356 (21-59) from three-point range in his senior season at Iowa. The Ohio native earned First Team All-Big Ten honors last season and ranks first in school history with 140 games played, 618 free throws made and 800 free throws attempted. White ranks second in school history with 1,859 points scored and third with 901 rebounds.
