From our friends at the Citi Open...

Defending US Open Champs Čilić and Bryans Confirmed for Citi Open Tennis Tournament

Rest of world-class tournament player field to be released week of June 22

The 2015 Citi Open Tennis Tournament player field just got hotter with commitments from the defending U.S. Open champions. World No. 9 Marin Čilić, the men’s singles champion, and Mike and Bob Bryan, World No. 1 men’s doubles champions, have confirmed their participation at the Washington tournament, the Capital Tennis Tradition.

Čilić joins what is expected to be one of the tournament’s best player fields in its 47-year history in Washington. The impressive men’s singles field includes two-time Grand Slam champion and World No. 3 Andy Murray, World No. 5 and 2014 U.S. Open finalist Kei Nishikori, World No. 11 Grigor Dimitrov, and three-time Grand Slam champion Lleyton Hewitt. Čilić’s addition means there are now three top 10 players to date entered into this year’s tournament. The full singles player field will be released the week of June 22, while the doubles field is expected the week of July 13.

Čilić, 26, has won 13 titles and reached a career-high ranking of No. 8 in 2014. The No. 1 player from Croatia defeated then higher-ranking players - Tomas Berdych in the quarterfinals, Roger Federer in the semifinals, and Kei Nishikori in the final - to win his first Grand Slam trophy.

Mike and Bob Bryan, the sport’s most successful doubles team, won their 100th ATP World Tour title at the 2014 U.S. Open. They captured three of those titles in Washington. Together, they have won 16 Grand Slam titles, plus the gold medal in the 2012 London Olympics.

Courtside box seats, a variety of all-session and multi-session ticket packages, group packages, and single session/daily tickets are available online at www.citiopentennis.com. Courtside hospitality suites are also available by calling the tournament hotline at 202.721.9500.

The Citi Open is scheduled for August 1-9, 2015, at the Rock Creek Park Tennis Center. It is one of only 13 elite ATP World Tour 500-level events worldwide and the only one held in the United States. The Citi Open Tournament also features a WTA International Tournament, which provides fans the opportunity to watch simultaneous competitions of both world-class men’s and women’s tennis throughout the nine-day event. It is one of only four U.S. tournaments that include both men’s and women’s fields.

The tournament’s owner and beneficiary, the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation (WTEF), provides underserved children in the D.C.-area with a safe environment to learn critical life skills both on and off the courts through academic and athletic enrichment.
