GW Baseball Clinches No. 6 Seed in A-10 Championship

From our friends at GW Athletics...

Colonials to Make Second Postseason Appearance in Three Seasons

The George Washington baseball team has clinched its second Atlantic 10 Championship appearance in the past three seasons and will play as the No. 6 seed in next week's conference tournament, May 20-23, at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park.

The Colonials will face No. 3 Richmond in Wednesday's first game at 10 AM. Saint Louis earned the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye with its 16-8 conference record. Also making the field is No. 2 Rhode Island (15-9), No. 4 Davidson (14-10), No. 5 VCU (13-10) and No. 7 Fordham (13-11). The full tournament schedule is available at Atlantic 10 Championship Central.

The Atlantic 10 Championship is a seven-team, double-elimination tournament with the winner receiving the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The winner of the game between GW and Richmond will advance to play the winner of Rhode Island-Fordham in the 10 AM game on Thursday morning. The two lowest-seeded teams that lose on Wednesday will play an elimination game on Wednesday evening at approximately 8:30 PM.

GW finished with a 30-20 overall record, the program's first 30-win season since 2005, and a 13-10 mark in conference play. It marks the second time in three seasons under head coach Gregg Ritchie and his staff that the Colonials have earned a postseason bid.

The winner of next week's tournament will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.

GW is seeking its fifth Atlantic 10 Championship after winning league titles in 1979, 1989, 1992 and 2002.
