The Gunman Movie Review

Sean Penn stars in The Gunman

Another Day in Paradise

IMDb Plot: A sniper (Sean Penn) on a mercenary assassination team, kills the minister of mines of the Congo. Terrier's successful kill shot forces him into hiding. Returning to the Congo years later, he becomes the target of a hit squad himself.

Penn provides hope for all guys over 50 in Pierre Morel's The Gunman. The two-time Oscar winner looks seriously ripped; and does a credible job as a soft-spoken hitman with a conscience. The first hour or so is entertaining, fast-paced and stylish; but the final half-an-hour turns into a ludacris shoot-em-up that seems to come out of nowhere. Javier Bardem (Hollywood's best villain?) is devilishly delightful, "Peek-a-boo!" and keeps things interesting. Jasmine Trinca's lovely to look at; but gets relegated to damsel-in-distress status. The Gunman ultimately falls prey to hails of gunfire and migraines; but it's still a fun ride.
