AMP Opens This Weekend

Strathmore redefines nightlife on Rockville Pike with opening of new concert venue at Pike & Rose in partnership with Federal Realty Investment Trust, Neighborhood Restaurant Group

Strathmore’s new off-campus concert venue AMP opens this weekend with back-to-back performances by alt-country icon Jay Farrar on Friday and Saturday, March 6 and 7, and a triple bill featuring Toshi Reagon of Big Lovely with jazz drummer Allison Miller and electronic musician Be Steadwell on Sunday, March 8. AMP opens as Strathmore celebrates the 10th anniversary season of its hallmark Music Center, further broadening the organization’s footprint in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region. AMP was created in partnership with real estate developer Federal Realty Investment Trust (NYSE:FRT), with food provided by the tastemakers at 550 Events & Provisions, a division of Neighborhood Restaurant Group. There are currently 44 concerts on sale to the public at AMP through August 2015. For a complete calendar of performances, tickets, and additional information, visit www.AMPbyStrathmore.com.

AMP is great music and great food at Pike & Rose, an urban-minded, Metro-accessible neighborhood at the intersection of Rockville Pike and Montrose Road. AMP puts a premium on authentic live music experiences, bringing new energy beyond the Beltway. Located in the thriving and rapidly changing Pike District in Montgomery County, AMP is the central arts amenity and nexus of live entertainment in the growing Pike & Rose neighborhood. Together with iPic Theaters, Pinstripes bocce and bowling concept, and a roster of restaurants, AMP will foster a vibrant nighttime economy in Montgomery County.

AMP is the culmination of more than three years of planning and construction, and a $250 million investment to make Federal Realty’s new 24-acre mixed-use community Pike & Rose the center of nightlife on Rockville Pike. The 4,000-square-foot venue will increase Strathmore’s programming, with 144 concerts per year for 48 weeks. The music room is anchored by a 12’x24’ stage, with an 8’x14’ LED wall that artists will use to enhance their performances with high-impact visuals. The space will accommodate multiple styles of seating for audiences, however most shows at AMP will be all-seated in a cabaret style, for patrons to dine during concerts. AMP can accommodate 240 patrons in an all-seated concert. AMP is also available for corporate events, weddings, and private parties, with catering by 550 Events & Provisions.

Headed by seasoned chef and cookbook author Jenn Crovato, 550 Events & Provisions offers concert-goers custom, seasonal menus of small plates for both the performances and private events. Acclaimed beverage professionals Brent Kroll, Greg Engert, and Jeff Faile are curating an impressive beverage program that includes 20 wines by the glass, 12 beers on draft, and a selection of creative craft cocktails. Neighborhood Restaurant Group will also open a restaurant and beer garden, its first Maryland location, in Pike & Rose later this year.

AMP’s first live concerts hint at the sonic variety the venue will bring to Rockville Pike. A mix of polished national touring artists and local favorites will keep AMP pulsating with roiling roots rock, the spontaneity of jazz and blues, the intimate atmosphere and informal banter of cabaret, soulful singer-songwriters, the easy swing of folk, experimental world music, edgy comedy, and an amalgam of other genres and music fusion concepts. The complete list of shows booked in AMP’s first two months is below.
