Pizza Vinoteca Ballston Opens December 11th

From our friends at Pizza Vinoteca...

Grilled Pizzas, 36 Wines Under $10

Takes the Pizza Out of the Oven and Onto the Grill

The New York-born Pizza Vinoteca will open at 800 N. Glebe Road in Ballston Thursday December 11 with an Italian-inspired menu prepared on a custom-made grill and paired with curated, food friendly wines none priced more than $10 a glass.

At the heart of the Pizza Vinoteca concept is a custom-designed Jade Range grill that reaches 900ºF and is used to prepare most of the menu. The grill with 16 burners, infrared heat and three wood chip smoke boxes creates thin and crunchy pizzas with the perfect amount of tender chewiness. The expansive menu showcases high quality, farm-fresh American or, whenever possible, Virginia ingredients offered at accessible price points, all under $19, and include pizzas, antipasti, salads, entrees, and desserts.

Pizza Vinoteca’s offerings are grounded in pizza, paying tribute to both classic and modern styles. Classic Pizzas include a “house” pie with tomato sauce, fontina and mozzarella cheeses, and basil; roasted mushroom with goat cheese and leeks; and pepperoni. Crafted Pizza combinations include a spicy chili pesto with “jowlciale,” toasted pistachios and honey; a tarte flambé, and more. There are also farm fresh salads and a variety of Mains including grilled chicken, fish, and beef For Dessert: five different flavors of bomboloni, Tuscan-style doughnuts served warm.

A wine menu priced under $10 a glass offers many options. Featuring a global list of 36 wines, each wine is poured from an argon gas dispenser which stores the wines at the appropriate temperature and ensures every glass is fresh. Pizza Vinoteca will hold weekly wine specials as well as monthly winemaker dinners. A limited number of invitations to an exclusive Wine Club will be offered to give guests access to special wines, wine tastings and events. A collection of local craft beers and a full bar rounds out the libations offerings.

James Biber of Biber Architects, New York City, designed the 4,500-square foot restaurant. Inspired by the menu and wine selection, the dining room features a combination of black and white with a red background to emphasize the heat of the grill. Pizza Vinoteca will seat 100, in addition to a 30-seat circular bar. The recessed dining room will offer banquette seating for 24 and a communal table for 18.
