NIGHTCRAWLER, the critically acclaimed film starring Jake Gyllenhaal, written and directed by Dan Gilroy, will return to theaters nationwide on December 5, 2014. The announcement was made today by Tom Ortenberg, CEO of Open Road Films.

NIGHTCRAWLER has taken in nearly $30 million at the box office and has earned high praise from audiences and critics. NIGHTCRAWLER is nominated for the Film Independent Spirit Awards for Best First Feature, Best Screenplay: Dan Gilroy, Best Editing: John Gilroy, Best Male Lead: Jake Gyllenhaal, and Best Supporting Male: Riz Ahmed. The Gotham Independent Film Awards nominated Dan Gilroy for Breakthrough Director and Riz Ahmed for Breakthrough Actor. NIGHTCRAWLER has earned the Broadcast Film Critics Association Critics’ Choice distinction and yesterday was named one of the National Board of Review’s Top 10 Films of the Year. NIGHTCRAWLER is also certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes at 95%.

Members of the following film industry guilds and organizations will be able to use their official guild cards for free entrance to see NIGHTCRAWLER when it returns to theaters nationwide beginning December 5, 2014: AMPAS, ACE, ADG, ASC, BAFTA, CAS, DGA, FIND, HFPA, MPEG, MPSE, PGA, SAG NOM COM and WGA.

Lauded by critics when it hit theaters in October 2014, Claudia Puig of USA Today said, “Jake Gyllenhaal plays one of the year’s most memorable characters. This may well be Jake Gyllenhaal’s best-ever performance.” Joe Morgenstern of The Wall Street Journal said, “Jake Gyllenhaal gives a startling portrayal in this impeccably crafted film from writer-director Dan Gilroy.” Rolling Stone’s Peter Travers wrote, “Jake Gyllenhaal is scarily brilliant. A deliciously twisted piece of work. ‘Nightcrawler’ curves and hisses its way into your head with demonic skill. Dan Gilroy slaps you around good. Brilliant. Rene Russo is terrific.”

Written and directed by Dan Gilroy, NIGHTCRAWLER is a pulse-pounding thriller set in the nocturnal underbelly of contemporary Los Angeles. Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Lou Bloom, a driven young man desperate for work who discovers the high-speed world of L.A. crime journalism. Finding a group of freelance camera crews who film crashes, fires, murder and other mayhem, Lou muscles into the cut-throat, dangerous realm of nightcrawling - where each police siren wail equals a possible windfall and victims are converted into dollars and cents. Aided by Rene Russo as Nina, a veteran of the blood-sport that is local TV news, Lou blurs the line between observer and participant to become the star of his own story.

NIGHTCRAWLER premiered at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival and was the closing night film at the 2014 Fantastic Fest as well as an official selection at 2014 Carmel International Film Festival, 2014 Hamptons International Film Festival, and 2014 Mill Valley Film Festival.
