New Venue Powered by Strathmore Begins Presenting Live Music March 2015

Bringing fresh vitality to Montgomery County, the new concert venue AMP, located at Pike & Rose, will open to the public in early March 2015. AMP has announced a lineup of 26 concerts for its opening months that are representative of the eclectic vibe and acoustic versatility of the space. Additional shows will be added to the schedule, and the opening act for AMP will be announced in January 2015. Tickets for shows announced this week will be available to the public beginning Friday, December 12, 2014 at noon. The venue is currently available for corporate events, weddings, and private parties, with catering by 550 Events & Provisions, a division of the trendsetting Neighborhood Restaurant Group. For a complete calendar of performances, tickets, and additional information about AMP visit www.AMPbyStrathmore.com.

AMP’s first live concerts hint at the sonic variety the venue will bring to Rockville Pike. A mix of polished national touring artists and local favorites will keep AMP pulsating with roiling roots rock, the spontaneity of jazz and blues, the intimate atmosphere and informal banter of cabaret, soulful singer-songwriters,  the easy swing of folk, experimental world music, edgy comedy and an amalgam of other genres and music fusion concepts. Among the early performances at AMP will be Toshi Reagon of Big Lovely with drummer Allison Miller and ambient electronic artist Be Steadwell; New York favorites the Loston Harris Trio in tribute to Frank Sinatra; Australia-transplant and winner of “Australia’s Got Talent” guitar-head Joe Robinson; Vinicius Cantuária paying homage to Brazilian bossa nova legend  Jobim; folk chanteuse Lera Lynn; impassioned classical pianist Soheil Nasseri; award-winning bluegrass from The Claire Lynch Band; and stand-up from NBC and Comedy Central alum Sheng Wang. High-level local artists performing at AMP in its opening months include the genre-bending world music ensemble Black Masala; The 9 Songwriter Series performer collective; and local theater favorite, baritone Bob McDonald.
