Roof Becomes Roof Kitchen & Bar; Offers New Menu, New Look

From our friends at Roof Kitchen & Bar...

To paraphrase the old song, “I climb way up to the top of the stairs (OK…so there is an elevator)…And all my cares just drift right into space…” Up on the roof. Right smack-dab in the middle of town… Bethesda, to be specific.

Bethesda’s Roof restaurant has gone through a metamorphosis. The new Roof Kitchen & Bar, which will debut at the end of the month, features a redesigned, upscale, casual dining area with pops of color, and a brand new menu.

Chef Jed Fox’s offerings include an expansive list of small plates, perfect for sampling and sharing. The diverse choices, include everything from hand-cut garlic fries with Chipotle mayonnaise ($7); seared local tuna tacos with guacamole, mole salsa and cucumber tomato salad ($12); Guacamole in classic verde or bacon chipotle  ($8), to cornmeal fried oysters with pickled cucumbers, spicy cocktail sauce, tartar sauce and lemon ($13); mild to hot crispy chicken wings ($11); crispy calamari with spicy herb cabbage salad, sriracha mayo and lemon ($12) and drunken smoky mussels with dark beer, lime, house pork chorizo, smoked tomatoes, oregano and cream ($14).

Desserts include blackberry trifle with lemon cake; apple crumb cobbler and chocolate crème brûlée plus an assortment of ice cream and sorbet ($9). Whiskey and after dinner drink selections are also well represented.

Salads and entrees are also well represented.  Selections include baby kale with apples, almonds, sunflower seeds, radish, eggs onions and sesame ranch dressing ($9); wilted spinach and mushroom salad with crispy shitake mushrooms, onion, poached egg and bacon vinaigrette ($14); ancho BBQ crusted baby back ribs with garlic Panko crunch, crispy Brussels sprouts, candied pumpkin seeds, bing cherries and mashed potatoes ($19); slow braised pot roast with classic carrots, onions and mashed potatoes and gravy ($22); farm fresh steak & eggs with house made garlic fries and chimichurri sauce ($26) and more. A selection of sandwiches and sides are also available.  Daily specials will also be offered.

The bar features a variety of artisan cocktails, wines by the bottle and glass and bottled and on-tap beers. Happy hour starts early on weekdays, from 3-7:00 PM, with an additional late night happy hour Thursday through Saturday from 9:00 PM until midnight.
