Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club (Bethesda Blues and Jazz) is presenting singer, actress and writer René Marie on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 7:30 PM as she performs songs from “I Want to be Evil (With Love to Eartha Kitt),” the first tribute album to Eartha Kitt.
“I Want to be Evil (With Love to Eartha Kitt),” is listed in The Billboard’s Top 100 Jazz Albums and is the first tribute album and vocal recording that honors the divine Eartha Kitt and her fiery and sensual songs. With her incredible range of vocal ability, powerful emotional resonance and strong independent streak, René is the right artist to conceive of this historic project with multi-Grammy-nominated label Motéma Music. I Wanna Be Evil (With Love to Eartha Kitt) is René’s third recording for the label and her 10th career album.
With similar backgrounds, Eartha Kitt and René Marie are exceptional role models in the Jazz world. Eartha Kitt is one of America’s strongest iconic figures and was an inspiring artist, a strong woman and an essential activist in different ways. She was a sensual and powerful woman in a man’s world at a time when most women were background not front and center.
