Big Hero 6 Movie Review

Welcome to the Nerd Club

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: With all the heart and humor audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studios, "Big Hero 6" is an action-packed comedy-adventure about robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who learns to harness his genius-thanks to his brilliant brother Tadashi and their like-minded friends: adrenaline junkie Go Go Tamago, neatnik Wasabi, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred. When a devastating turn of events catapults them into the midst of a dangerous plot unfolding in the streets of San Fransokyo, Hiro turns to his closest companion-a robot named Baymax-and transforms the group into a band of high-tech heroes determined to solve the mystery.

Warning: Disney makes kids cry. More specifically, Big Hero 6 does. There's death, revenge and an ending that had many children in the audience literally sobbing. This from a movie that sports the best line of 2014, 'If I had just one super power, it would be to crawl through this camera and give you a hug.' The animation is absolutely spectacular, and Baymax (AKA the walking marshmallow) is adorable; but the second half features way too much action, and skews towards pre-teens/teens. Worth watching for the first 60 minutes or so (before it turns into Mini-Avengers.) Youngsters beware.

Grade: B-
