iPic Entertainment Announces Grand Opening of iPic Theaters Pike & Rose in North Bethesda, Slated for Friday, Oct. 31
Free movie ticket offer for new members before Nov. 5; tickets on sale for much-anticipated blockbusters “Interstellar” and “Big Hero 6,” opening on Nov. 7 with special showings on Nov. 6
iPic Theaters, the fastest-growing affordable luxury movie-watching experience in the nation, announces that it will officially open as the anchor tenant for the new Pike & Rose development in North Bethesda on Friday, Oct. 31.
Comprising 47,000 square feet, eight screens and 782 seats, iPic Theaters Pike & Rose is a visionary entertainment destination providing guests with chef-driven dining choices and an affordable luxury movie-watching experience all under one roof. Moviegoers can indulge in the most comfortable theatrical environment, an unprecedented level of service, and choice of Premium and Premium Plus seating, both offering plush leather seats. Premium Plus seating offers fully reclining seats, personal pillows and blankets, free popcorn and a special order-by-iPad system. Ninja-like servers are summoned at the touch of a button to deliver the gourmet “dining in the dark” iPic Express menu, expertly crafted by James Beard Award-winning Chef Sherry Yard, and a farm-to-glass cocktail program by nationally lauded iPic Mixologist and Master Sommelier Adam Seger. Premium seating ticket-holders may purchase their food and beverage directly from iPic Express and carry it into the theater to enjoy at their seats.
Grand opening week festivities run through Nov. 6, beginning with Eyeballs for Charity, a community “watch-a-thon” event starting on Halloween, featuring free face painting, Thriller dance crew, culinary and cocktail demonstrations, selfie photo booths, stilt walkers, DJs and fun family activities benefiting seven local charities. In honor of the grand opening, movie-goers may take advantage of a special offer: Individuals who sign up for an iPic Membership with North Bethesda (Pike & Rose) as their “home” theater before Nov. 5, 2014, will receive a one-year complimentary Sapphire Membership, as well as (1) complimentary Premium Plus ticket that can be used from Nov. 7 to Dec. 16, 2014. iPic Express, iPic Theaters’ in-theater dining concept, features a gourmet menu designed by Sherry Yard, who serves as corporate vice president of culinary direction. Menu items are conducive to in-cinema dining, such as Warm Biscuits with Maple Butter, Chicken Caesar Spears, Pork Wings, Lobster Rolls and Spicy Salmon Tartare. On the sweeter side, curated offerings showcase Yard’s take on classic dessert favorites. A full-service bar offers an exclusive selection of handcrafted cocktails presented by Adam Seger, featuring a locally driven fresh produce and herbs-centric menu focusing on house-made syrups, bitters and infusions. Seger’s creations include such refreshing and complex flavor profiles as The Norma Jean, made with strawberry vodka and from-scratch strawberry lemonade, and the Augustine Sour, made with cherry house-infused bourbon, Grade B maple syrup and pressed lemon.
iPic Pike & Rose’s adjacent full-service restaurant, City Perch Kitchen + Bar, is a seasonal American Dining Room by Sherry Yard with Chef Matt Baker at the helm. The restaurant will serve up contemporary comfort food sourced from nearby farms and waters, offering unique and playful dishes. Selections will include abundant appetizers such as brioche-adorned Maryland blue crab cakes; vegetables straight from the farm; generous salads; outstanding main courses, from spit-roasted free-range chickens to char-broiled steaks; and Yard’s handmade, heartwarming breads and desserts.
Yard is the recipient of two James Beard Awards, for Outstanding Pastry Chef of the Year and Best Baking Book for her cookbook, "The Secrets of Baking." In 2014, she was inducted into the James Beard Foundation’s Who’s Who of Food & Beverage in America. Yard began her culinary career at the Rainbow Room followed by stints at Drew Nieporent’s Montrachet and Tribeca Grill. She moved to California where she established herself as a pastry chef at San Francisco’s Campton Place followed by a move to Los Angeles to work with Chef Wolfgang Puck. Yard served as executive pastry chef for Puck for nearly 20 years, creating menus, opening new restaurants and mentoring a generation of chefs. Her desserts were a staple at the Academy Awards Governor's Ball, the Grammy Awards and the Emmy Awards.
