Photo Recap: Passport DC - Shortcut to Europe: European Union Embassies' Open House 2014

FREE Danish Pancakes at the Embassy of the Netherlands

Last week, we traveled across the world: Today, it was Europe. The Shortcut to Europe: European Union Embassies' Open House is one of DC's best FREE events, a whirlwind tour of 27 countries (if you're fast, lucky and resourceful.) I've visited each stop; but never all on the same day (perhaps next year.) Today, I stuck to the east side of the Yellow Route (Czech Republic, Hungary and the Netherlands.) It's close enough to home, where I didn't need to travel to and fro on the FREE shuttles... which is good, since most buses filled up in a hurry. Thankfully, Mother Nature was on our side, and the weather was plenty nice (with a few drops of rain in between.)

As per usual, the Embassy of the Netherlands went above and beyond to impress; although (sadly) there were no free beer glasses this year, courtesy of Heineken. There was free beer however (tall cups, no less) ice cream, Danish pancakes and fresh Stroopwafels too. Not to mention, some of the friendliest employees and volunteers. Nearby, the Embassy of the Czech Republic hosted an entertaining police dog training demonstration, in addition to serving beer and food; and across the street, the Embassy of Hungary served up delicious bowls of goulash.

I came unprepared this year, armed only with an iPhone to take photos. Click here to see better and more photos on the official website's photo gallery. Until next year...
