2 Dining Destinations (and 10 Dishes) That are Worth the Drive

From our friends at the Wine Kitchen...

Is there really anything better than a leisurely weekend breakfast? These days there seems to be an endless number of eateries where you can spend your mornings downing mimosas and chatting with friends over scrambled eggs, which means it takes something special to get urban diners out of downtown for brunch.

Located just an hour outside of the city, the Wine Kitchen on the Creek and WK Hearth are dining destinations that are worth the drive. Owned/operated by restaurateurs Jason Miller and Michael Mercer, both eateries are serving some seriously delicious Sunday brunches. Here’s a glimpse at some mouthwatering items on the current menus:

About the Wine Kitchen:
The Wine Kitchen on the Creek boasts one of the most impressive wine lists in the DC area. In addition to all the classic types of vino you would expect at a restaurant that serves American bistro-style cuisine, The Wine Kitchen’s list of libations also includes number of rare, hard to find of “just plain cool” wines. The most popular options, however, come from the list of almost a dozen rotating Wine Flights, each of which has a different theme (i.e. “The Plains of Spain,” “Roll Out the Red Carpet” and “Whites of Fancy.”) Jason Miller and Michael Mercer’s Seasonal American Bistro menu takes advantage of the great variety of local and organic ingredients raised by this region’s farmers. Dishes are prepared with simple straightforward flavors to highlight the freshness and quality of the ingredients. The Wine Kitchen on the Creek is located at 50 Carroll Creek Way, Suite 106 in Frederick, MD.

About WK Hearth:
Known for its highly diversified menu, WK Hearth has been a favorite of both locals and tourists since it opened its doors not too long ago. Located in the historic Cole Farmhouse the restaurant operates under the central idea of “Eat, Drink, Simply” – a nod to co-owners’ Jason Miller and Michael Mercer’s belief that wine and food are best when presented and enjoyed in their purest form. Open for brunch, lunch and dinner, the menus at WK Hearth are seasonally-driven and changes on a regular basis.  Most of WK Hearth’s dishes feature locally-sourced ingredients. Highlights from WK Hearth’s regularly changing menus include Braised Rabbit with Sweet Potato Dumplings, Hearth Roasted Turnips, Cippolini Onions, served in an Herb Pan Sauce and topped with a chopped herb Gremolata; Savory Leek Bread Pudding and Peach Upside Down Cake with Rosemary Caramel Sauce. WK Hearth is located at 130 Purcellville Dr. in Purcellville, VA.
