Beloved roots-music conservator performs brand-new album BLUESAmericana
Three-time Grammy winner and roots-music storyteller Keb’ Mo’ will perform music from his anticipated April 2014 release on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 8 p.m. This is the performer’s 12th full-length album, which also marks the 20th anniversary of his debut, Keb’ Mo’. For more information or to purchase tickets, call (301) 581-5100 or visit www.strathmore.org.
Keb’ Mo’ is a singer-songwriter, guitarist and living link to the seminal Delta bluesmen who monumentally inspired the distinctly American blues genre. Born Kevin Moore in Los Angeles to parents originally from the Deep South, Keb’ Mo’ adopted his well known stage name in the storied tradition of predecessors such as Muddy Waters (formerly McKinley Morganfield) and Taj Mahal (born Henry St. Clair Fredericks). His sound embraces multiple eras and genres, including pop, rock, folk and jazz, and has earned him three Grammy awards for Contemporary Blues Album. On camera, he has appeared and performed in several television and motion pictures including the series finale of “The West Wing,” John Sayles’ feature film Honeydripper and Martin Scorcese’s PBS special Feel Like Going Home.
At its core, his latest album BLUESAmericana is about love and understanding. The songs “Do It Right” and “For Better Or Worse” assay devotion and marriage. The thorny, comic “The Worst is Yet To Come” is about hope, and “Somebody Hurt You,” featuring Civil Rights era Freedom Rider Rip Patton on bass vocals, is, in Keb’ Mo’s words, “where the blues meets the church.” The record is accented by acoustic guitars, featured prominently in the arrangements, which also gain texture from electric and resonator slide guitars, mandolin, percussion, keyboards, reeds and horns.
