Strathmore Presents Cirque Zíva, April 9th

From our friends at the Strathmore...

Chinese tradition melds with modern choreography, acrobatic feats on Music Center stage

The Golden Dragon Acrobats—athletes, actors and artists in their own right—showcase the amazing feats of balance, gravity-defying acrobatics, gymnastics and choreography of their hit show Cirque Zíva in the Music Center at Strathmore on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at 8 p.m. Audiences can catch this electric performance before the troupe returns to New York City in December 2014 for a five-week performance run at midtown’s famous New Victory Theater. For more information or to purchase tickets, call (301) 581-5100 or visit www.strathmore.org.

The Golden Dragon Acrobats hail from Cangzhou, Hebei Province, China and were founded by Lien Chi Chang in 1967. They blend traditional Chinese arts with modern choreography, staging and costumes. The troupe’s producer and artistic director, Danny Chang, son of Lien Chi Chang, is a leading exponent of Chinese acrobatics. He began training at the age of seven under the tutelage of his father. After more than 17 years of apprenticeship and performing with the National Acrobats Troupe of the Republic of China, Chang took full control of the Golden Dragon Acrobats in 1984.

In 2005, their debut at the New Victory Theater earned two prestigious New York Drama Desk Awards nominations (Best Choreography and Most Unique Theatrical Experience).
