Colonials Place First on Each Event in Regular-Season Finale
The George Washington gymnastics team set a new uneven bars team record and had a gymnast take first place in all four events in a tri-meet victory over visiting Towson and Yale at Senior Day on Sunday afternoon at the Charles E. Smith Center.
The Colonials totaled 195.875 to win the event followed by Towson in second place with 192.600. Yale took third place with 191.750.
GW set a new program record on uneven bars with a 49.20, besting the previous record of 49.175 set during the 2003 season. The Colonials added a season-high score of 48.725 on balance beam in addition to 48.90 on vault and 49.050 on floor exercise.

Graduate student Kayla Carto finished tied for first place in the all-around in the final home competition of her career. She scored 38.90 thanks to scores of 9.725 on vault (6th), 9.65 on uneven bars (t-12th), 9.80 on balance beam (t-3rd) and 9.725 on floor exercise (11th).

The Colonials started the meet on vault where they scored six of the top seven routines of the day. Freshman Chelsea Raineri won the event title with a 9.875, the eighth time this season she has scored that value or better. Freshman Alex DeMoura and junior Elena Corcoran each tied for third place with 9.775 while senior Taylor Henderson followed in fifth place with career-high tying 9.75.

GW registered the top five routines of the afternoon on its record-setting uneven bars performance. Raineri and senior Betsy Zander shared the event title by scoring 9.875, career-high scores for both competitors. Senior Brittany Doran earned sole possession of third place with a career-high 9.85 and classmates Henderson and Kiera Kenney tied for fourth place with 9.80.

Carto finished tied for third with a 9.80 while Corcoran and DeMoura tied for fifth place with 9.725, season-high scores for both gymnasts. Kenney added a 9.625 towards the total (9th) and sophomore Taylor Redmond finished in 13th with a 9.60.
Raineri tied for first place to lead the Colonials on floor exercise with a 9.85 while Zander and Henderson tied for third place with 9.825. Corcoran followed in sixth with 9.80 while Redmond added a 9.75 (T-8th) and Carto finished with a 9.725 (11th).
Following the meet, the Colonials honored seniors Carto, Doran, Kenney, Henderson, Zander, Sara Halliburton, Tara Rosenberg and Katrina Hufnagel for their dedication to the program.
The Colonials return to action on March 22 at the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championship Meet at the University of New Hampshire.
