Five Score in Double Figures in Colonials' Rout of Black Bears
GW men's basketball placed five in double figures en route to its highest scoring output in 12 seasons with a 108-81 romp over Maine at the Charles E. Smith Center on Tuesday evening.
The 108 points were the most for GW (2-0) since a 116-102 overtime victory versus Yale at the Smith Center on Nov. 24, 2001. It marked the most in a regulation contest for the Colonials since a 119-80 rout of Howard in 2000.

Graduate student Maurice Creek led the offensive outburst with 19 points, including a career-high tying five 3-pointers, along with six rebounds and five assists. Three players narrowly missed double-doubles as senior Isaiah Armwood and sophomore Kethan Savage both finished with lines of 18 points, nine rebounds and three blocks, and sophomore Kevin Larsen added 13 points and nine boards.

Senior Nemanja Mikic rounded out the double-digit scorers with 13 points and four 3-pointers, leading a barrage of 11 triples for the Colonials, their most since hitting 11 during a 77-56 victory at Bowling Green in Nov. 2011. Sophomore Joe McDonald chipped in eight points, junior John Kopriva and sophomore Paris Maragkos added seven apiece, and freshman Miguel Cartagena finished with five points and a game-high seven assists.
Creek and Mikic combined for five early 3-pointers to open a 27-12 lead just over eight minutes into the game, then Armwood finished an alley-oop from Savage on the Colonials' next possession to ignite the rout.

Despite trailing by as many as 18 in the first half, Maine managed to climb back within 45-38 with 3:51 left before halftime, but a dunk by Larsen pushed the margin back to double digits for the rest of the contest as GW took a 56-46 advantage into the break. The 56 first-half points were the most for the Colonials since scoring 59 in a 94-51 win over UMBC in Nov. 2009.
Creek hit his fifth triple as GW opened the second half with a 17-6 run to push the lead to 73-52 and Maine got no closer than 18 the rest of the way.

The sequence of the night came just past the midway point of the second half as Savage hit a triple, then blocked a layup on the defensive end to ignite a fast break that was finished by a Cartagena dish to Armwood for a punctuation slam.
GW's lead peaked at 29 points, 96-67, a few possessions later with 5:22 remaining, and Savage put the Colonials at the century mark for the first time since 2005 with a layin that made it 100-74 with 3:09 to play.
Maine (1-2) was led by Shaun Lawton's game-high 23 points, six rebounds and six assists. Dimitry Coronel added 16, Zarko Valjarevic netted 13 and Ethan Mackey provided 10 points and nine rebounds off the bench.
