Burrito Battles: Moe's Southwest Grill

It takes a lot to impress me, so hats off to Moe's Southwest Grill for their value-packed "Moe Monday" special. $5.99 buys you any burrito, 22 oz. soft drink and chips/salsa. Mo Money, Mo Problems? Evidently not at Moe's.

The Shops at National Place? Normally chaotic, but I understand why more than half the tables had bags from Moe's atop them. Not only is the price right; but the food is good quality. Let's start with the chips & salsa which is free with every order. Granted, they dump the chips into the bottom of your bag; but you can take as much salsa as you like, and the salsa is unbelievably delicious. I scribbled the following notes re: salsa... A++, Spicy! Hard to beat that, if you ask me.

There's a wealth of choices available for your burrito, in addition to the cleverly titled Homewrecker, Joey Bag of Donuts and Art Vandalay. I went with chicken, seasoned rice, diced tomatoes, pico de galo and something called Hard Rock 'n Roll Sauce. Buyer beware: This sauce is insanely hot. Before the heat kicked in, I must admit my burrito tasted a bit flavorless. Keep in mind, I passed on beans, cheese and other popular items... but plain chicken is plain chicken, no matter how you slice it.

Service was quick and friendly. It's a relatively short assembly line, but the employees move you in & out with startling efficiency. You can tell, they're used to dealing with long lines of hungry (soon-to-be happy) customers. My total wait time was three minutes tops, and I had five people in front of me.

I'll be sure to jazz it up next time with Southwest or Fat-Free Salsa Vinaigrette, and leave the Rock 'n Roll Sauce for the "big boys." It seems I'm not the heat demon I thought I was!
