I didn't know what to expect from the newest Bobby's Burger Palace at Westfield Montgomery Mall, especially after I got left off the guest list for the press preview. I considered not reviewing it... but that seems petty, don't you think? Besides, it remains one of my favorite burger hubs; even if I'm not getting any corporate "love."
The 16th BBP did little to change that opinion, as the staff there wowed me as usual. It began with an enthusiastic greeting at the checkout counter, and a BBP first... an offer to join their reward program. Basically, spend $100 and get a free burger: I'm predicting a February cash-in for yours truly. I knew of the program, but this was the first time anyone asked me to join. Bravo!
From there, I ordered a Palace Classic Burger with fries and a soda. Once again, another first: I was directly invited to have my burger crunchified. What's that, I asked. She told me they'd place a nice stack of potato chips inside my burger. Hamburger and potato chips: How do you refuse that? Their fountain drink machine was on the fritz; but I was given a 20 oz. bottle (Coke Zero) instead. Grand total? $12.46... Affordable, as always.
Palace Classic Burger, crunchified |
I set up shop at the far end of the counter, where I was given a place setting (napkin, fork, knife) by yet another friendly employee. Everyone seems friendly at BBP: I had two managers stop by to ask me how my meal was. There's that aforementioned love I was seeking. Even better, my plate was cleared immediately after I was done (after asking, of course.) Try finding that at Five Guys.
French Fries with BBP Sauce |
As for my food... Three cheers, per usual. My burger (see above) looked cool with the added chips; but I was a little nervous that it appeared overdone. Thankfully, it was just an aggressive char; as my burger was cooked a perfect MEDIUM inside. There's a good reason Bobby's makes our #2 ranked burger... Consistency, consistency, consistency. Fries were extra crispy, and extra delicious with Bobby's Chipotle Ketchup on the side. Speaking of condiments, be sure to add Bobby's Burger sauce to your burger: It makes a good burger even better.
Counter-style seating |
The layout is nice, with plenty of seating... which is good since there was a line of 20 or so customers as I left just before noon. With great food and a strong price point, BBP should soon become the #1 food option at Montgomery Mall. Open at 11:00 AM, 7 days a week. Close at 9:00 PM on Sundays, 10:00 PM Monday-Thursday, and 11:00 PM Friday-Saturday. Need more info? Call 301-767-3943.
Mall entrance |
Atmosphere: A- (Even nicer than K Street. Separate mall entrance = nice touch.)
Burger: B+ (A bit too much char for me; but love the added crunchification.)
Fries: B+ (Always good.)
Price: B
Overall: A- (Miami opens next month... That makes 17. May I suggest my own Cleveland Park as #18? Plllease?)
