College Football: Marist 43 Georgetown 23

Hoyas QB Isaiah Kempf throws for 398 YDS & 2 TDS

Sly as a Fox: Marist Crushes Georgetown 43-23

One week removed from a 42-6 romp over Davidson in its home opener, the Georgetown Hoyas fell way behind visiting Marist (37-9 in the 3rd quarter,) ultimately losing 43-23 before 1,813 faithful at Multi-Sport Field. Both offenses combined for 66 points and 958 total yards.

The Hoyas (1-2) gave up a whopping 505 total yards to the Red Foxes (1-1) including 230 yards on the ground. Junior Emmanuel Onakoya rushed for 105 yards on just 12 carries, buoyed by a 50 yard scamper midway through the third quarter that put Marist up 30-9. Senior QB Chuckie Looney tied a school record with four touchdown passes.

Georgetown had no trouble generating yardage on their own (453) but most of it was through the air: Senior Isaiah Kempf threw for 398 yards, the most for any Hoya QB in 15 years. Fellow senior Zack Wilke led all receivers with 10 catches (108 YDS, 1 TD.) The Hoyas even managed to gain more first downs (27-25) but were stifled on the ground (55 net rushing yards.) They actually gained 101, but Kempf was sacked a staggering seven times. Hey O-Line, what's up with that?

Marist led 9-0 after the first quarter; but the Hoyas rallied to tie it at 9 before Looney scrambled for a five yard score, just seconds before halftime. The Red Foxes came out on fire in the second half, tallying 21 straight points in less than 11 minutes. Down 28 at that point, the Hoyas passed almost exclusively for the rest of the game.
